Dr. Yabut’s Viewpoint:
We are so thrilled and excited to share with all of you as my staff and I welcome my daughter Angela as one of our Dental Hygienist in our office.
Angela had worked in our office in 2014 helping out at the front desk and as our PR/Marketing Coordinator. During that time, she had shown extreme interest in helping our patients achieve the best possible oral health. Prior to her employment in our office, she had worked in two other companies pursuing what she had studied previously.
As a Mom and an executive of our office, I have encouraged her to go back to school and become a Registered Dental Hygienist.
She went back to school for this second career for 20 solid months.
Yes, it was challenging and difficult because it was a totally different field. I saw her passion and dedication…Through God’s help and guidance- she made it!
I could not be more proud of all she has accomplished – and to now have her as a part of our team and to partner with her in helping you, our patients, in your dental health is such a gift! I am blessed and look forward to working side by side with her….As some of you who have met her have even called her Dr. Yabut Jr.
Angela’s Viewpoint:
I am so pumped to join my Mom and her team at Dr. Yabut Smile!
This wasn’t always the case throughout my life. Growing up I was always told to go into the dental field, but as a teenager, I would always say that I’m not interested in teeth and I wanted to follow my own path instead of my Mom’s footsteps.
After high school, I ended up going to college and graduating with my Recreation Facility Management and Recreation and Leisure Services diploma. I had strong leadership and organizational skills with lead me to working as a beach volleyball league coordinator, a haunted house manager and an indoor play land supervisor. For a few years of working full time, I thought the working nights and weekends didn’t fit my lifestyle since I got married and working opposite shifts of my husband. I was able to find another job in customer service at an on-line retailer. Unfortunately, after another few years working there, I wanted something more out of my career but I didn’t know what that was.
My Mom was in the process of hiring someone for the front desk and it came at the perfect time since I was in a transition to find a new employment opportunity. That’s where my journey at Dr. Yabut Smile began. While working at the front desk and helping out with the PR/Marketing side for the office, I realized the impact of not only my Mom, but the whole team, was making in our patients lives. It hit me by surprise that the idea of going back to school to become a dental hygienist was something I wanted to do. I wanted to it because I wanted to help patients with their oral health and not because my Mom told me to. She planted the idea so long ago but I finally listened and understood the reason why she encouraged me throughout the years.
I decided to go back to school full time back in April 2015 for an accelerated dental hygiene program for 20 months. These were some tough months ahead. I barely had a science background so this program was extra challenging but going back to school as a “mature” adult definitely helped because I was motivated to work for something I truly wanted and the idea of cleaning teeth to help patients with their oral health became so fascinating.
With plenty of hard work, I graduated and passed my board exam in January 2017. I cannot believe that I am working alongside my Mom as a dental hygienist. She’s a great boss and even better Mom. I am so thankful for how she’s guided and supported me throughout this whole process.
I am so excited to share the news that I’ll be working at Dr. Yabut Smile as a dental hygienist and I cannot wait to meet all of you! Oral health is such a vital component to a healthy lifestyle. If you have any questions, I am more than happy to chat with you.
